Eyes surveying the imaginary checker boxed puzzle
Floating in front of me
Trying to make sense of your "1" down
As a frowned face
The hint you offer to me
Brings me no closer to the answer
Flipping the pages of my vocabulary
As I search the depths of my mental rolodex
For a word to suffice
As to why a smile wasn' t what I was greeted with
Nor a hug
Nor a "Hi'
.... just a pair of fiery eyes
But still I can produce no answer
Always thinking I'm close
You do well to reassure me that close is nowhere nearby
Answer continuing to elude me
I just decide to move on to "4" across
Figuring the answer is always correlated to something I've done
I guess again
Just to have to erase my answer
Feeling my emotions expand beyond the confines of this pencil
That does well to erase my words off the page
But rub & rub all I want I know this anger won't leave my face
Now we both are playing this game of riddles and hints
Competing daily against one another to make our puzzle more arduous
than the others
Adding more and more rows and columns
As the days progress...
We make no progress
You now seeking the answer to my "16" across
Trying to decipher the cryptic code in my nonchalant demeanor
Me seeking to find an answer to your "20" down
Somewhere in the barrage of curses & insults
I'm trying my best to not misnomer you
By "calling you out your name"
But I don't know if I can take this any longer
No longer aware how or why this attrition of words began
Now we're just knowingly placing words where they don' t belong
No longer caring enough to seek the answers to the others puzzle
......Daily blanks being left "blank"
You not hearing me
Your words not making a word of sense to me
Nightly we carry unextinguished emotions to bed
Making the manner of our eves restless...
As the room becomes hot & steamy
Not from your hands all over me or mine all over you
But because this fire we each carry inside is burning right through
Gradually this mental struggle leading to physical exhaustion
Has us both wanting to put the others puzzle down..... FOR GOOD
'Cause our words are just crossing in the air
Now we sit side by side
Puzzles on our laps, As we look in to each others eyes....
PUZZLED
As to why it took so long for us to answer our puzzles
Because we both know, no matter how many spaces we allot
For the correct term
"YOU" is the ultimate answer to complete me all across
& "LOVE" blends our lines all the way down
